April 29 2017
Place Guild House, 565 Canning Highway, Alfred Cove

Make an easy and very adaptable album style book that you can decorate with hand or machine embroidery. Directions will be given for a book that takes A4 size pages but once you know the technique you can make it any size you want. These albums are great for photographs of special occasions such as weddings, christenings and special birthdays. They are also good as travel diaries, scrap or sample books. You can apply all your scrapbooking skills to decorating the pages.

Depending on the time available you will also make or see a demonstration of how to make a simple but clever fabric book cover to fit a hardback journal, notebook or diary.

3D Wren Workshop

Tutor Jenny Adin-Christie from UK

July 11 - 14 2017
Place Our Lady of Fatima Church Hall, 10 Foss Street, Palmyra
Time 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

You will create a three-dimensional bird; a tiny wren…inspired by the ingenious techniques and novelty needlework items of the 17th century. The wren forms an etui, with space for thimble, a thread cutter in the beak, and flannel needle book pages beneath its wings. The legs and beak are hand cast in solid bronze. The body itself is created using a pre made 3D printed form.

The wren uses a range of traditional raised work techniques with the addition of some new ideas! We will combine needlelace, wired 3D shapes, goldwork, crewel work and surface stitch, on a base of British wool tweeds and baize.

The wren stands as a piece in its own right. However, if desired you may purchase a further project pack to allow you to embroider a mossy hillock for the wren to sit upon, including emery filled pin cushion and space for etui scissors. You may also pre order a hand-made wooden base with or without retractable tape measure mechanism with brass turning dial.
