3D Wren Workshop

Tutor Jenny Adin-Christie from UK

July 11 - 14 2017
Place Our Lady of Fatima Church Hall, 10 Foss Street, Palmyra
Time 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

You will create a three-dimensional bird; a tiny wren…inspired by the ingenious techniques and novelty needlework items of the 17th century. The wren forms an etui, with space for thimble, a thread cutter in the beak, and flannel needle book pages beneath its wings. The legs and beak are hand cast in solid bronze. The body itself is created using a pre made 3D printed form.

The wren uses a range of traditional raised work techniques with the addition of some new ideas! We will combine needlelace, wired 3D shapes, goldwork, crewel work and surface stitch, on a base of British wool tweeds and baize.

The wren stands as a piece in its own right. However, if desired you may purchase a further project pack to allow you to embroider a mossy hillock for the wren to sit upon, including emery filled pin cushion and space for etui scissors. You may also pre order a hand-made wooden base with or without retractable tape measure mechanism with brass turning dial.
