3a.   Hare & Strawberries

This is a typical Elizabethan design of a hare surrounded with strawberries stitched in detached buttonhole stitch. For this class students can choose to stitch design in either Gumnut yarn “stars” silks or DMC Coton a Broder 25 threads, allowing those students who struggle with the finer threads the opportunity to work an animal with a heavier thread.   In this project you will explore the use of detached buttonhole and variations to learn the art of creating three dimensional effects.

This Elizabethan design features a hare under a fruiting tree of strawberries and lily surrounded by various insects, small creatures and scrolls of gold worked in Gumnut Yarn silks on a linen background.

This project allows the ladies to build on the techniques and skills they have learnt in the previous Elizabethan workshops and introduces them to the skills required to stitch small animals in detached buttonhole.

The piece for this class can be framed or mounted on the lid of a box OR the piece can be put towards an embroidered Elizabethan casket which is to be done over a two to three year period. This piece has been designed to be used for one of the doors on the front of the casket
