Workshop Description: The project, designed by Di Fisher from South Australia is worked on 32-count Permin linen – ‘Lambswool’ – measuring 80 x 36 cm. The embroidered area of the sampler measures 64.1cm x 20.2cm. A combination of silk and metallic threads are used.
There will be some preparation work needed prior to the workshops The sampler uses many unique stitches no longer used but common in the Tudor and Stuart period (like Elizabethan net stitch, rice stitch, tent stitch, Montenegrin stitch 2 versions), Italian cross, long arm cross, upright diamond stitch and the list goes on. Threads used are stranded silk, gilt silk twist and metal threads. While this is counted work embroidery there are also stitches familiar to those who have worked on Elizabethan surface embroidery, detached buttonhole, satin stitch, twisted chain stitch and plaited braid stitch, spiderwebs.
There will be further workshops on Wed 30th June-Sun 4th July 2021 as well as a support/interest group run by Raelene Vinciullo.
