This is a typical Elizabethan design featuring a peacock surrounded by coiling stems of gold, enclosing flowers, insects and small creatures stitched in silks on a linen background. This project allows participants to build on the techniques and skills they have learnt in the previous Elizabethan workshops.
The embroidery is stitched in a single thread of Gum Nut Yarn silks on 55 count Kingston linen.
The piece for this class can be framed or mounted on the lid of a box, or it can be put towards an embroidered Elizabethan casket which is to be done over a two to three year period. This piece has been designed to be used for the back panel on the casket.
Note that participants will have already done the floral scrolls side panel prior to joining this workshop.
